Liquid diamonds have become the meta over the last few years, and the industry has used them as an upselling narrative to consumers to lead them to believe they’re more potent than distillate, which isn’t necessarily the case due to the THCa > THC conversion formula. In order for liquid diamonds to reach similar levels to distillate, the extract needs to be further refined.
Diamonds are typically around 85%-95% THCa, not THC, it’s an unrefined cannabinoid isolated extract, meaning it contains no terpenes, similarly to distillate. They are naturally formed when the cannabinoids begin to crystallize and separate from the terpenes and essential oils of cannabis (HTE)
The misdirection lies in the fact that when the diamonds are melted, the THCa converts into THC, and the formula for that is below;
THC = THCa x 0.877
This means even if you have pure THCa diamonds at 99.99% THCa, the maximum THC level can only be 87.70%. THC and along with every other cannabinoid (CBG, CBD, CBN, THCv) will be found in a much lower concentration than in refined liquid diamonds and distillate.
Distillate is a set of isolated cannabinoids.
It is a blank slate for combining with a terpene source to create a balanced vape.
Vape cartridges made with isolated terpenes (CDT & BDT) often lack much of the depth in flavor & affects of true cannabis concentrates, leading to an underserved stigma to distillate when it’s the terpenes to blame.
Average distillate carts are used with botanically derived terpenes (BDT) which contain no material from the cannabis plant itself and taste/smell like fruit, and have much less strain accurate effects.
Cannabis derived terpenes (CDT) are a step forward, but still not a complete cannabis experience, leaving a lot to be desired, and resulting in some underwhelming results in flavor and effects.
Distillate utilized with HTE, a form of terpenes derived from BHO concentrate will provide a vape cartridge optimized in every way. Potency, flavor, and most importantly terpene volatility & stability.
